
Dr. Timothy Sharples
Industrial Organizational Psychologist
My life's mission, "Writing the Right for Modern Policing through Emotional Intelligence," has led me down diverse paths of learning, sharing, and, most importantly, teaching. Drawing from years of active-duty law enforcement experience, I aim to engage and influence the next generations of criminal justice college students and law enforcement professionals while foster critical thinking and personal growth. I achieve this by incorporating real-world experiences and insights into the curriculum, augmenting defined course activities.
Dr. Sharples, a respected scholar-practitioner, holds a doctorate in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. With a remarkable 32-year tenure in law enforcement, encompassing diverse roles and ranks across multiple agencies in three states, he brings a wealth of practical experience to his work. As a certified Master Instructor by the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), he adeptly crafts engaging course content tailored to learners of varying skill levels. Dr. Sharples is renowned for his skillful integration of problem-based learning within evidence-based practices, particularly addressing the complex challenges confronting modern policing and society.
Currently, Dr. Sharples spearheads The Eikon Group, his advisory and consulting organization based in Charlotte, NC. Here, he leads a team dedicated to exploring the psychology behind emotional intelligence and its impact on law enforcement policies and procedures, as well as community dynamics. Through collaborative partnerships with law enforcement leaders, Dr. Sharples assesses, designs, and implements transformative programs. These initiatives span a wide array of subjects, including leadership and followership, emotional intelligence, procedural justice, interpersonal communication, officer safety and wellness, domestic violence, and community engagement. His work emphasizes the interconnectedness within and beyond the realm of policing, fostering holistic approaches to enhancing law enforcement effectiveness and community relations.​
Dr. Sharples hold a Doctorate in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Capella University where his research was focused on understanding how emotional intelligence effects a law enforcement officers ability to apply procedural justice.
